Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, Grundsätze der paulinischen Ethik im Kontext der heutigen Wertediskussion zu beleuchten.
Zunächst soll an die Wirkung des Apostels in der christlichen Kultur erinnert werden. Damit ist sein Einfluss auf die Anfänge des Christentums, das Mittelalter, die Reformation, die Gegenwart und auf die Weltkultur gemeint.
Im weiteren Verlauf dieser Arbeit werde ich mich mit dem jüdischen Hintergrund des Paulus beschäftigen und im Anschluss daran auf seine Bedeutung für die Entstehung des Christentums hinweisen.
Danach wende ich mich der stoischen Moralphilosophie zu, insbesondere der stoischen Naturrechtslehre, welche Paulus in seinen Schriften des Neuen Testaments aufgreift. In weiteren Abschnitten werde ich das Wesen des Guten bei Paulus deutlicher herausarbeiten und den Zusammenhang mit der stoischen Ethik herstellen.
Im letzten großen Teil meiner Dissertation werde ich versuchen, die Grundideen der paulinischen Ethik in die heutige Diskussion um moralische Werte einzubringen. Sind die Zeiten, in denen fest stand und auf der Hand lag, used to be das moralisch Richtige ist, bereits dahin? Dabei interessiert mich besonders der Stellenwert des sozialen Gewissens und dessen Sensibiliät. In diesem Zusammenhang werde ich unter anderem der Frage nach einem verbindenden Glied der einzelnen Kulturen bzw. der Frage inwiefern eine generelle Anpassung religiöser Inhalte an eine säkulare Gesellschaft problematisch erscheint, nachgehen.
Insgesamt hoffe ich, dass dieses Thema nicht nur wissenschaftlichen Charakter hat, sondern auch für die moralische Orientierung und für die alltägliche Lebenspraxis nützlich sein kann. Möglicherweise kann es auch lebenswerten suchenden Menschen helfen, eine klare und tragfähige Wertvorstellung für die heutige Zeit zu erlangen.
